Bound states in the continuum from supersymmetric quantum mechanics.
Starting from a potential with a continuum of energy eigenstates, we show how the methods of supersymmetric quantum mechanics can be used to generate families of potentials with bound states in the continuum [BICs]. We also find the corresponding wave functions. Our method preserves the spectrum of the original potential except it adds these discrete BICs at selected energies. Specifically, we ...
متن کاملBound States at Threshold in Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics
We propose a general method that allows to detect the existence of normalizable ground states in supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems with non-Fredholm spectrum. We apply our method to show the existence of bound states at threshold in two important cases: 1) the quantum mechanical system describing H-monopoles; 2) the quantum mechanics of D0 branes. e-mail [email protected] Permanen...
متن کاملBound states in the continuum in quantum dot pairs
It is shown that for two open quantum dots connected by a wire, “bound states in the continuum” of a single electron are formed at nearly periodic distances between the dots. This is due to Fabry-Pérot interference between quasi-bound states in each dot. The bound states are non-local, describing the electron trapped in both dots at the same time. Theoretical and numerical results show that tra...
متن کاملSupersymmetric quantum mechanics from wrapped branes
We explicitly construct a solution of eight-dimensional gauged supergravity representing D6-branes wrapped on six-cycles inside Calabi–Yau fourfolds. The solution preserves two supercharges and asymptotically is a cone with the coset space SU(2)/U(1) as its base. It is shown to correspond to an M-theory compactification on a Calabi–Yau manifold with SU(5) holonomy and we discuss in detail its g...
متن کاملSupersymmetric Quantum Mechanics from Light Cone Quantization
We study the supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems that arise from discrete light cone quantization of theories with minimal supersymmetry in various dimensions. These systems which have previously arisen in the study of black hole moduli spaces, are distinguished by having fewer fermionic fields than the familiar Kähler and hyper-Kähler models. This is a contribution to the Yuri Golfand me...
